This feisty rove beetle is well known throughout Europe for its defensive display. When threatened, it opens its jaws and curls its abdomen over its body. The pose resembles that of a scorpion but functions more like a skunk raising its tail — if further harassed, white stink glands emerge from its rear, and a fierce bite could follow.
This “horse” prefers to travel on foot — but to the dismay of countless bug-fearing people throughout the ages, it can fly if it has to.
The "flying horse" hard enamel pin measures approximately 1.75 inches long and is double-posted for extra security. It features eye-catching silver metal, striking black enamel, and shimmering golden wings to capture the beetle's legendary attitude. Each pin comes on a card with the species name.
